A Fond Farewell
Steve Burke, OVC and DSL’s director of administrative computing, will be retiring at the end of November after over 40 years of service to the MIT community. Steve manages the desktop support team, which tends to the technical needs of 750 employees.
Over the years, Steve has been an effective leader in incorporating tools and policies that benefit both staff and students. He led the way in developing personally identify information (PII) policies and processes, instituted policies around the physical security of machines, and implemented the use of IdentityFinder software and PGP Whole Disk Encryption. Steve has collaborated with managers in IS&T’s IT Security Services as well as other offices across campus. He has also been a valued thought partner for OVC and DSL office heads. Fittingly, he has received numerous Infinite Mile Awards for his work and dedication to our staff. Steve’s impact will be felt for many years to come.
After retiring, Steve plans to fulfill a long-held dream: moving to Palm Springs, California. We wish him the very best as he embarks on this exciting new chapter in his life!
