Career Advising & Professional Development (CAPD) conducted two PhD & Postdoc Career Planning groups this summer: one in June and one in July, with 38 and 27 attendees respectively. More than 80 pre-registered for the June group, so Jake Livengood, senior assistant director of graduate student career services, and Bob Dolan, assistant director for postdoctoral scholars, offered an additional group in July. Throughout both groups, students explored aspects of personality and preference, transferable skills to various industries, workplace values, an introduction to design thinking, and goal setting. These serve as filters for career decisions. Future groups will be offered in October, November, January and March; are still finalizing dates. For questions, contact Jake at livngood@mit.edu.
