(Re)Introducing CAPD’s CareerBridge, Powered by Handshake
Career Advising & Professional Development (CAPD) recently launched an exciting platform, called Handshake, to the CareerBridge student career management system. Students rely on CareerBridge to schedule advising appointments, register for events, sign up for on-campus recruiting, research employers, and apply to opportunities. Handshake utilizes a responsive user interface and advanced machine learning to provide users with personalized recommendations for opportunities and events. Handshake currently connects over 250,000 employers (including 5,000 non-U.S. based) to over 700 universities on a centralized network. This network will supplement MIT’s current recruiting relationships and result in more opportunities in terms of both geography and industry; we anticipate that this network will increase options for each of our students, especially for those interested in opportunities not currently offered at MIT.
CAPD is excited about Handshake’s ability to not only promote career opportunities, but also assist in career exploration for students. The system intelligently recommends career events and resources, including many of the CAPD offerings meant to assist students who might be going through the graduate school process, applying to medical school, or transitioning from academic careers to industry.
This new platform will help in achieving our goals of greater student engagement and increased diversity of opportunities, particularly for students in MIT’s School of Science; School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences; and School of Architecture and Planning.
